Summer’s basically here. I can taste it. Spent my Memorial Day Weekend in the green bounty of Vermont. The minute my train rode into Vermont’s green border, the smile on my face couldn’t be removed. Managed to get a little work done while I was there, though –

Wrote an 8+ for Ear Farm on the intersection of music, emotion and memory, in relation to the Akron/Family song, “Italy.”

I woke up after 4 hours of sleep to talk about being sleepy for the Contrast Podcast.

And I gave St. Vincent’s new album, Actor, a big ol’ kiss on Popdose despite the rocky performance the other week.

Metallica: “Wherever I May Roam” (download)

As promised, T-Sides is once again tapping the writing well. There hasn’t been much in the way of live shows to whip us into a frenzy, but new release season is finally picking up.

Quick-witted Lily Allen has a new one that doesn’t quite live up to the pop accessibility of her first, and there are not one but two albums by actor-musicians that are actually quite good: Coconut Records, solo project of Jason Schwartzman, and Steve Martin’s bluegrass record.

Additionally, to celebrate Valentine’s Day, the Popdose staff chose to talk about things we love: books, movies, albums. I selected one of each, as did each staff member. There are lots of great selections. See if you can guess what I picked!

Brandy: “Where Are You Now?” (download)

Between the holiday build up and wind down, and winter being slow for the music biz, T-Sides biz has been slow, as well, but we’re still kickin’!

The Top 10 list(s) appeared on Bullz-Eye, The Chicago Sun-Times and, of course, Largehearted Boy. T-Sides also won the best Top 10 Albums List of all Top 10 Albums Lists accolade from Popdose.

Speaking of Popdose, I recently interviewed music journalist turned girls’ guidebook author, Carrie Borzillo-Vrenna, and started off 2009 with a review of Animal Collective’s much-lauded Merriweather Post Pavillion.

Somewhere in there, I also stopped by the Contrast Podcast to talk about songs that remind us of getting older and/or being old.

Things are coming up slowly as we get back into the swing of things, but just you wait. It’s ROCKtober, which means there’s something to see/do/listen to/write about basically every day. Until the impending barrage of pieces that will likely make your eyes bleed, I have a few snippets to tide you over.

I’m back to reviewing at Popdose. I recently gave Lilum, TV on the Radio and Passion Pit the royal treatment. All of which are worth reading about and listening to, for completely different reasons and in completely different ways. Interpret that as you will.

Through these outlets, we hope to attract new readers, as well as provide current readers with another way to discuss artists covered on T-Sides, discover new artists, and suggest things you might like to see in regards to our content. I attended the Yeasayer/The National SummerStage on Monday night and wrote about it for my friends over at EarFarm.

And remember that Wolf Parade concert review? Well, the alternative weekly the New York Press ran one of their own… with a picture from T-Sides to go along with it.

There’s also, of course, my weekly reviewing at Popdose – this week was the ever controversial Black Kids.
