The heavenly song Madame George that you so eagerly picked out is very very long for a pop song. All great musical achievments struggle to get their full recognition through their very progressive nature. Nuetral Milk Hotel's 'In the Aeroplane Over the sea' will never go gold and yet 10/10 is it's most common rating as it is without question a life affirming tribute to the beauty of human creativity. It's just a natural yet depressing reality. For some reason Van is never elevated to quite the same level as some of the other rock icons, but he should be. While his newer work doesn't quite achieve the same mystic heights as the earlier stuff, it's still a cut well above most of the fodder that is released today. No listener's musical education is complete without a close study of Astral Weeks. One of the greatest albums in a career full of great music.
