when i saw the mountain goats i was similar outsider, there for kimya's set and hugging the stage because i stayed up front... and i was surprised by how much fun i had. it was at neumo's, where i'd previously only had a shitty time (too. many. people. at. the. rilo. kiley. show.), and the crowd was amazingly friendly. the most captivating song at that show was "alibi," which at that time took ages to track down. like most good songs, it was so much better live - largely, i think, because it was still new and interesting to them.
