Taylor, there is no excuse for not watching Goodfellas...especially since the bastardized version is played on AMC every other month (And as cut up as that version is it's still amazing).

Watch Goodfellas. Then watch Raging Bull.

Then mix and match from The Last Temptation of Christ, Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, Alice doesn't live here anymore and The Last Waltz.

Hell, even After Hours can work.

The Departed is amazing too. Casino is overrated/just a piss pore remake of Goodfellas.

Of those, I've seen The Departed, which I liked quite a bit, but didn't impress me as much as I anticipated, and I've seen Gangs of New York, but it didn't really hold my attention. The other I've seen is The Aviator, my favorite part of which was Cate Blanchette. Really, all three of these are bad starting points for me and Scorsese, because he clearly fucking loves Leonardo DiCaprio, and I can't fucking stand Leonardo DiCaprio. (I think he's talented, but I think his talent is vastly over-rated.) I've only seen part of Taxi Driver, which is criminal, I know, and I've never seen Goodfellas, and I anticipate that when I do see it, that will change my opinion of him.

THREE? not impressed?? man. well i'd suggest checking out Goodfellas, Raging Bull, The Departed, After Hours, Gangs of New York, The King of Comedy, Mean Streets... those are the ones by him that I love in order of most loved to lesser. there are more of his worth watching too, but those I mentioned stand out as both favorites and really great films. given how much he loves rock music, and the way he's worked rock into his films and let it drive the plot at times, i'd say he'll do a very very fine job on this Stones doc.
