Astroland closed for the summer this weekend – and quite possibly forever. I’ve spent a lot of time at Coney Island over the past year and a half, so if it does indeed shut its doors forever, I’ll greatly miss it.

    the land was bought by Thor Equities. they want to turn it into another Atlantic City or Vegas (barf). http://www.nysun.com/article/43372

    Coney Island amusment parks have a history of not lasting very long. See also Luna Park (1903-1944), Dreamland (1904-1911), Steeplechase Park (1897-1964), and Sea Lion Park (1895-1903)

    Astroland is just the latest (1964-2007)
